The Halloween Timeline

Halloween 2010: I collected invitations to parties, picked a costume, carved a pumpkin and had a blast. For those new to the blog, you should know that last year was the first year I celebrated Halloween--ever.

Halloween 2011: I created an inspiration board for my costume. (Don't judge). I also took a plane to spend the weekend with my best friend who recently moved back over to my coast. I thought she could use a familiar face close by. Later, I've got a Halloween party and a costume that will finally come together for the first time. It does not include the swimsuit option featured below.

See? Epic shit, no?

  1. Halloween is new for me too. It wasn't "allowed" when I was growing up and I always felt like I missed out. Especially since I've had my own child, I decided to screw the legalistic bullshit I grew up with. We can do costumes and candy and carving pumpkins and maybe even someday the God-forbidden event known as trick-or-treating. I'm such a heathen. Though I'd like to see it as I'm a recovered legalist. (o: And perhaps heathens have more fun and live more.

It also feels more kind and neighborly to hand out candy to our neighbors and their kids rather than shut my door and turn off all the lights and pretend we aren't home. To me, it feels like Jesus would be looking for opportunities to extend kindness to others - even on Halloween. (I have just a few opinions on this can you tell?!)

And whoohoo for you doing Halloween. I can't wait to see the Tombraider costume on you! Oh and the shoes you wore last year, I might give my left arm to have them. Those are so cute!

(I swear I'm not trying to be disrespectful or sacrilegious. I'm apparently still somewhat bitter for feeling like I missed out on the whole Halloween thing in my childhood. And am clearly making up for it now! I guess I'm just the kind of Jesus-follower that apparently says things like bullshit and celebrates Halloween.)
